Tiafoe and Tabilo join Team World for Laver Cup

Frances Tiafoe returns to Team World with great expectations.

Cincinnati finalist Frances Tiafoe and Chilean ranked 22nd in the world rankings Alejandro Tabilo will represent Team World at the seventh edition of the Laver Cup, which will take place in Uber Arena In Berlinout of 20-22 September 2024.

Tiafoe and Tabilo complete the line-up for Team World – making them number 10 in the world Alex de Minaur, (12) Taylor Fritz, (13) Ben Shelton and (14) Tommy Paul on the topic Captain John McEnroe’s Team.

Since competing for Team World at the inaugural Laver Cup in Prague in 2017, Tiafoe has impressed at the highest level on both the tour and the Laver Cup, reaching the semifinals of the 2022 US Open after defeating the four-time champion Rafael Nadalmaking him the first American to do so since Andy Roddick in 2006.

Tiafoe made history with his victory Stefanos Tsitsipas to seal the first Laver Cup title for Team World in London in 2022, and in combination with Jack Sock to defeat Nadal and Roger Federer in Federer’s last professional match.

“I’m excited to be back with Team World and look forward to another great week with my teammates and Johnny Mac,” said Tiafoe. “A third win in a row is the goal!”

For Tiafoe, this is already his fifth participation in the Laver Cup, a record he shares with Alexander Zverev.

“I am very happy to have Frances back on the team in Berlin,” said Team World captain John McEnroe.

“He has proven that he can compete against the best players in the world. His strength and speed make him a threat in both singles and doubles and give us many options. He is a big personality and brings a great atmosphere to the team, whether he is on the court or on the bench.”

Laver Cup debutant Alejandro Tabilo secured his first ATP Tour title in Auckland in January, dropping just one set in six matches to become the first Chilean to win a hard-court Tour title since Fernando Gonzalez in 2007.

Tabilo pulled off a big surprise on clay court at the ATP Masters in Rome when he defeated the world number one. Novak Djokovic in two sets on his way to the semifinals, where he beat the eventual champion Alexander Zverev in three sets. In July, he made it into the top 20 for the first time after winning his first grass title in Mallorca.

“Tabilo has proven this year that he can beat the best players on all surfaces. He should bring new energy to the experienced and successful core team,” said McEnroe.

Captain of Team Europe Bjorn Borg has assembled an impressive team to bring the Laver Cup back into European hands, Casper Ruud And Stefanos Tsitsipas to join the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael NadalWinner of Roland Garros and Wimbledon 2024 Carlos Alcaraz, Roland Garros finalist Zverev and former world number 1 Daniil Medvedev.

Team Europe won the first four editions of the Laver Cup in Prague (2017), Chicago (2018), Geneva (2019) and Boston (2021). Team World is aiming for a third consecutive title after victories in London (2022) and Vancouver (2023).
