“The only goal is that we have a very clean recruitment process, free from any form of nepotism and corrupt employment practices,” Passah added.

The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Monday organised a one-day sit-in demonstration to protest against the inaction of the Meghalaya state government on its demand to remove personal interviews from the recruitment process for Group B, C and D posts.

KHNAM’s acting president, Thomas Passah, stressed that the protest was a response to the government’s failure to address this problem, even though the party had already pointed it out over a year ago.

Speaking to the media, Passah said, “For over a year, we have submitted several representations to the state government, from MDA 1 to MDA 2. We have written our representation on the basis of the demand that we want to abolish or do away with the personal interview. We have also mentioned that the Indian government has abolished the personal interview since 2016. Similarly, 23 states have abolished the personal interview,” Passah said.

“Our only goal is to have a very clean recruitment process, free from any form of nepotism and corrupt recruitment practices,” Passah added.

“We regret to inform that for over a year now, the government has been ignoring this very important demand which can only benefit the youth of the state. Our position is very simple and we would like to once again request the state government to reconsider because if we do away with face-to-face interviews, we would also ensure an increase in literacy rate,” he explained.

“If the entrance examinations for Group B, C and D jobs are based on written examinations, the youth will be motivated to go into studies and continue their studies better,” he added.
