Hottest day of the summer expected today

Hotter weather is expected on Monday, with widespread temperatures in the triple digits. In fact, today looks set to be the hottest day so far this year, with a high of 106 degrees in DFW. The heat index will be even higher, at 108-112.

A heat advisory is in effect for DFW and surrounding areas until 9 p.m. Monday. An air quality advisory (Ozone Action Day) is also in effect.

Due to persistent dry, windy and hot weather, there remains an increased fire danger in areas west of US Highway 281.

This cold front will bring some cooling from the extreme heat until Thursday. Maximum temperatures will fall again to over 35 degrees.
