Pune’s fans enjoy the religious Sanskrit dance drama “Dan Keli Kaumudi”

Set in the Dan Ghati area at the foot of Govardhan Hill, ‘Dan Keli Kaumudi’ explores a unique aspect of the relationship between Radha and Krishna, presented in an entertaining and classical dance format.

Talking about the play, Dr. Swati Daithankar said, “Acharya Rupa Goswami of Vrindavan was a disciple and successor of Shri Madhvacharya and Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is revered as a promoter of religious rasas. His works, including ‘Dan Keli Kaumudi’, are a prime example of divine drama in literature. It is a great challenge for me to adapt his work into a dramatic form, playing the lead role of the presenter (Sutradhar) while dancing and speaking into the lapel microphone. We have carefully crafted the performance to ensure that it appeals to all the audience while retaining the essence of the original script.”

The research, choreography and performance of ‘Dan Keli Kaumudi’ was done by Dr. Swati Daithankar, music composed by Dr. Dhananjay Daithankar and music coordination by Devadutt Manisha Baji. Nandini Rao Gujar and Meher Parlikar have given their vocal support, Nupur Daithankar played Radha and Kohinoor Darda Krishna. The performance will also feature 12 dancers from NupurNaad Institute. Dr. Daithankar also announced that this production will soon be staged nationwide.
