An eight-year-old girl from Quzhou in China’s Zhejiang province has been praised for her survival instinct after seeking help at an ATM.

The incident occurred on July 30, when the child returned home from dance class and was separated from his grandfather.

Without a cell phone and familiar faces nearby, she became uneasy, but soon found a unique solution.

Emergency button on ATM connects girl to bank’s monitoring center

In her desperate state, the young girl noticed an ATM nearby and decided to ask it for help.

She pressed the red button next to the machine and was connected to the bank’s surveillance center.

Zhou Dongying, an employee of Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank, answered her call over the intercom.

When Zhou asked the girl if she remembered the phone number of her grandfather or other family members, she said no.

Police operation leads to happy family reunion

Regardless, Zhou alerted local law enforcement authorities.

He then asked the girl to stay there and continued to reassure her over the intercom.

Soon after, officers from the Kaihua County Public Security Bureau arrived and she was reunited with her grandfather, who had been desperately searching for her.

“This is the first time I’ve heard that you can use an ATM like this. Kudos to the smart little girl and the warm staff,” commented one user.
