Terraria developer responds to backlash over update 1.4.5, saying developers have removed “nothing” from the game: “We’re giving players more control”
NO, Terraria isn’t “maliciously” removing any options from its character editor in 1.4.5 – instead, developer Andrew “Redigit” Spinks says Re-Logic is actually adding them.
Recently, a dispute has broken out among Terraria fans. Some players are upset that the sandbox jewels Update 1.4.5 introduces changes to the character creation screen, removing the icons that indicate whether a sprite is coded “male” or “female” in favor of a richer and more comprehensive system with body types and new voice customization options.
Yes, that means the people complaining are desperate because the game is actually improving its customization features – and Redigit doesn’t want to hear about it. In response to a post The developer falsely claims that 1.4.5 will “maliciously” remove Terraria’s Male and Female settings “13 years after the game’s release,” and explains why this isn’t true: “Before this update, body type and pain sounds were linked.”
Before this update, body type and pain sounds were linked. Now that we’ve added voice customization (a much-requested feature), body type is a separate option. We haven’t removed anything; in fact, we’re giving players more control over their character. https://t.co/FVxNeI7s5y16 August 2024
Redigit continues, “Now that we’ve added voice customization (a much-requested feature), body type is a separate option. We haven’t removed anything; in fact, we’re giving players more control over their character.” In further responses, he clarifies that Re-Logic has “no plans” to remove gender-change potions from the game, and as for voice customization, players can “customize their voice at a hairdresser at any time.”
In other words, Terraria doesn’t lose anything that makes it great – it just gains better customization options, some of which the community has been waiting for for a long time. As self-proclaimed “Terraria enthusiast” and YouTuber Chippy writes, “I’ve been hearing the same hurt sound for over 13 years.” Personally, I can’t wait to explore the new voice options for myself – and of course, the possibility of becoming a vampire.
