From fast food to French fries: 8 new restaurants opening in Louisville in August

August may have just begun, but you don’t want to let it pass without trying a new restaurant.

And there are lots of new things to try out.

At least eight restaurants will open in Louisville this month, including several fast-food outlets, a bakery and cafe, a wine bar and a pizzeria that will open in a former Highlands bar, following several previous restaurant openings in late July.

Read on to find out details about these new restaurants in town.

At the unofficial opening of this new bakery in early August, photos of avocado toast, quiche and giant soft pretzels sprinkled with salt circulated on social media, accompanied by positive comments about how “incredible” these treats were.

Crust & Crumb already seems to have some fans: Even before the official opening, it had over 1,000 followers on Facebook.

The cafe and bakery will offer pastries, hot breakfast items, specialty coffees, soups and sandwiches, and other lunch items, among others. Crust & Crumb also has a retail area where customers can find items that pair well with the baked goods, including cheeses, meats and jams, the Courier Journal previously reported.

After months of waiting, Derby City Pizza will celebrate its grand opening on Monday, August 5, in the former Dundee Tavern, a longtime neighborhood pub in the Highlands. This will be the 10th location for the Louisville-based Derby City Pizza chain, which also plans another location in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The shop serves “Southern-style” pizzas like barbecue chicken pizza and chicken ranch pizza. The menu includes gluten-free and crustless options, as well as sandwiches, pasta dishes, salads and chicken wings.

Derby City Pizza is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

This new restaurant invites you to join the “French Fries Mafia”.

Fry Daddy’s, which previously operated as a food truck, will now serve its loaded fries, fried catfish sticks, cheeseburgers and other items from a small storefront on Bardstown Road across from El Mundo and Darling’s. The store’s main offering will be customizable loaded fries, which customers can customize by choosing the meat (choices include vegan chicken, fried chicken, fried alligator, pulled pork, lump crab, shrimp and steak), as well as sauce and other toppings.

Fry Daddy’s is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Months after Señora Arepa opened in the Highlands, a Mexican restaurant is moving into the premises.

Las Margaritas Mexican Cuisine announced on Facebook that it was taking over the location at 938 Baxter Ave., which was formerly the long-time location of Taco Luchador. Signs for La Margaritas have been visible at the location since July, including one that says “coming soon.”

Las Margaritas, a Kentucky-based chain, currently has three locations in the state, including one at 307 Central Ave. in Louisville. Two more Las Margaritas locations are scheduled to open soon, the Facebook post said.

Opening hours have not yet been announced.

How about some new wines in August? A new wine bar and restaurant is opening soon in downtown La Grange.

Madeline’s is scheduled to open in mid-August. Once open, the restaurant will serve a variety of small plates and desserts, as well as a wide selection of wines, in hopes of “providing the average guest with an elegant dining experience,” the Courier Journal previously reported.

As for food, expect dishes like cold tomato soup, salmon rillettes, steak tartare, charcuterie platters, sandwiches and soups. The restaurant serves red wine, white wine, rosé and champagne by the glass and bottle. A glass of wine costs $9 and a bottle of wine costs $32.

Craving a classic fast-food restaurant? This new McDonald’s location on Brownsboro Road opened on August 2 and will employ over 50 people. It features a two-lane drive-thru with mobile ordering and the lobby is equipped with ordering kiosks.

This is the second location for John Salls, owner and operator of Louisville’s McDonald’s, whose other location is at 5600 Preston Highway.

It is open 24 hours a day.

This sweet treat restaurant has gained a large following on Facebook and serves no-bake (and baked) cheesecake from a food truck. Mr. C’s Cheesecakes opened shop in early August at Louisville StrEatery, the food hall in the Beechmont neighborhood. The menu includes cheesecake sundaes, cheesecake glasses, cookie sandwiches and milkshakes.

It is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For fried chicken to go, here’s another option in town.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on West Broadway will celebrate a grand opening on Tuesday, August 6. Popeye’s is known for its chicken dishes, sandwiches and Louisiana-style dishes.

The drive-thru is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
