Overtaking lane N3 southbound in PMB closed for eight months

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has announced the closure of the overtaking lane on the N3 southbound between the Alan Paton slip road in Pietermaritzburg and the Gladys Manzi Road flyover bridge.

This closure, effective from Monday 19 August 2024, will last for eight months to allow for construction work on the Market Road flyover and associated roadworks in the central reservation of the N3. Two lanes will remain open for southbound traffic.

This work is being carried out as part of the major N3 widening project from Gladys Manzi Road to the New England Road Interchange.

Jason Lowe, project manager for Sanral’s eastern region, said motorists using the southbound slip road to Market Road would be advised that the slip road would no longer function as a merging lane but as a priority road during this period.

Minor delays are to be expected every day. All drivers are asked to remain patient during the road closure and to show consideration for other drivers.

“Sanral apologises for any inconvenience and thanks the public for their patience during the ongoing extensive road improvements,” Lowe said.
