Motorcyclist Louis O’Regan dies aged 43 after accident at Manx Grand Prix | Motorcycling

The Manx Grand Prix is scheduled to resume on Monday evening on the Isle of Man after Irish motorcyclist Louis O’Regan was killed in the qualifying race at the weekend.

Race organisers issued a statement offering their “deepest condolences” to his family and friends. The opening session did not resume following the red flag incident, which occurred at Kate’s Cottage on Sunday, about 30 miles into the 37-mile race around the island.

Organisers said: “It is with great sadness that organisers of the Manx Grand Prix can confirm that Louis O’Regan, 43, has died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at Kate’s Cottage during the first qualifying heat for the 2024 event.

“Louis, an Irishman living in Didcot, England, was an experienced Manx Grand Prix competitor who made his debut in the 2013 Newcomers A Race, finishing 12th.

“He achieved his personal best in the 2019 Junior Race with an average speed of 184.4 km/h. We extend our deepest condolences to Louis’ partner Sarah, his family, relatives and friends.”

Last year’s Grand Prix, which runs until next Monday, was also marred by the death during a qualifying run of 69-year-old Iain Bainbridge, another regular competitor who made his debut there in 2005.
