(CNN) — The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) maintains its decision that Romanian Ana Bărbosu legitimately took third place in floor gymnastics at the Olympic Games in Paris.

As a result of this decision, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) asked American gymnast Jordan Chiles to return the bronze medal originally awarded to her.

In a press release on Wednesday, the CAS stressed that there was never any dispute during the hearing with Romanian and US officials about USA Gymnastics (USAG) missing the one-minute deadline to challenge Chile’s score in the floor exercise.

The Olympic judges had initially corrected Chile’s score, awarded her the bronze medal and pushed Bărbosu off the podium.

“At the hearing, there was no dispute between the parties that Ms Chiles’ request was submitted 1 minute and 4 seconds after her score was officially displayed on the scoreboard,” the CAS press release said.

“All parties accepted the report prepared by Omega, the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, and presented by the FIG itself as clear and conclusive. No party requested the admission of further evidence.”

USAG had previously stated that it had only come into possession of the video, which it said proved that its request was submitted just 47 seconds after the CAS had already made its decision.

“The video footage provided was not available to USA Gymnastics prior to the tribunal’s decision and therefore USAG had no opportunity to submit it beforehand,” USAG said Sunday.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USAG also now claim that the CAS initially sent “crucial communications” to the wrong email addresses, which is why the parties were unable to adequately prepare for the hearing.

“The USOPC vigorously contests the CAS decision based on significant procedural errors,” the USOPC told CNN on Thursday. “From August 6 to August 9, the CAS sent important communications to incorrect email addresses at the USOPC and USAG, an error that was not corrected until August 9 – three days after filing, two days after the deadline to file objections, and less than 24 hours before the hearing.”

“As a result, we did not have enough time to respond sensibly or to gather the necessary evidence. We immediately informed CAS of our objections.”

Both parties state that they will continue to appeal the matter.

“Our pursuit of the truth in this matter remains steadfast,” the USOPC said.

On Monday, USA Gymnastics said it would “continue to pursue all possible avenues and appeals, including before the Swiss Federal Court, to ensure fair scoring, placement and medal awarding for Jordan.”

Last week, Chiles posted four broken heart emojis on her Instagram story and explained that she was “taking this time and stepping away from social media for mental health reasons.”
