Manchester United to sack Erik ten Hag after FA Cup final, says Rio Ferdinand

Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Manchester United even if they win the FA Cup final on Saturday, says Rio Ferdinand.

Under the Dutch coach, the club achieved eighth place, the worst result in Premier League history, and recorded a negative goal difference for the first time at the end of the season.

It has been a miserable season for United and there has been speculation for months that minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to hire a new manager.

And although Ferdinand suggests that he is not opposed to Ten Hag staying, he believes that a dismissal is far more likely.

“The more I think about it, whether he wins or loses, the more I believe Ten Hag will not be there next season,” Ferdinand said on his podcast “Vibe with Five.”

“I’m not saying I want that. I’m just saying what I think will happen. And I think the club will look elsewhere.”

“I don’t think (winning the FA Cup) changes anything in the eyes of INEOS. I haven’t spoken to anyone there, that’s just an assumption, that’s what I think.”

He continued: “If you ignore the injuries, the team’s performance was just poor. Most teams have struggled with injuries, maybe not to the extent that Man United have.”

“I keep saying this and I sound like a broken record: the level of performance may drop, but your football style should be recognisable. That is not the case.

“I don’t know what we are. I don’t know who we are. Who are we as a team? What are we?”
