An 18-year-old man tragically died and his friend was injured when an outdoor air conditioner fell from the second floor of a building in central Delhi, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the injured man, 17-year-old Pranshu, is currently receiving medical treatment and is unable to give a statement.

A video of the incident has been circulating online, showing Jitesh sitting on a scooter in Doriwalan area and chatting with Pranshu when suddenly the air conditioner falls on them, injuring both of them.

“On Saturday around 7 pm, we received information at Desh Bandhu Road police station that an outdoor air conditioner had fallen from the second floor on two persons,” said a senior police officer.

The injured were rushed to a hospital where doctors declared Jitesh dead on arrival while Pranshu was admitted for further treatment, the official added.

According to the official, an FIR has been registered under sections 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“The forensics team has examined the site and further investigations are ongoing,” he concluded.
