West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph was named alongside 19 others in the first shortlist for the BBL draft

West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph has nominated himself for the Big Bash League (BBL) draft. After turning heads with his exploits at the Gabba last year, the pacer is tipped to return to the continent, this time to be part of a franchise. Cricket Australia has released the first list of nominated players, which consists of 20 stars, including Shamar Joseph.

Joseph is known for leading the West Indies to a historic win at the Gabba last year with his 7/68 effort in the 4th innings. The Caribbean has also represented other franchises in rival T20 leagues, including the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024 and the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.

Even if Shamar Joseph is selected in the BBL draft, he will not be able to play in the final as it will coincide with the West Indies’ series against Pakistan in January 2025.

Nearly 600 overseas players have nominated themselves for this year’s Big Bash drafts, including England opener Alex Hales and Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Lockie Ferguson, Haris Rauf and Jason Roy are some of the other players who have expressed interest in playing in the BBL.
