“No to the death penalty” campaign lasts another week
The Women’s Press Union (YJR) announced on August 12 that the “No to the Death Penalty” campaign against the death penalty for female journalists and activists in Iran would continue until August 19. On Sunday, the YRJ announced that the campaign had been extended for another seven days.
YRJ members told ANHA that the campaign will continue until August 26. YRJ added that the campaign period was extended in line with the demands of various women’s organizations in Syria, Kurdistan and the world in the last 72 hours.
Many women’s organizations in North and East Syria have supported and participated in the campaign. Kongra Star, Zenubiya Women’s Community and many women’s councils and committees have joined the campaign from the beginning.
YRJ spokeswoman Arîn Siwêd told ANHA that there was strong participation in the campaign, adding that many female journalists had made important suggestions on issues such as giving greater importance to women’s resistance and struggle, fending off attacks, and increasing support for the “Jin, jiyan, Azadî” revolution.
Siwêd said that 3,000 signatures had been collected electronically so far, adding that a press conference would be held at the end of the campaign.
The YRJ will send the signatures to the International Union of Journalists and Human Rights Watch.
