Unless the player has changed the settings, all zombies run at night. This increases the difficulty of the game and makes the night quite tense, especially in the early stages of the game. 7 Days To Die is full of dangers. Even during the day it is a pretty dangerous place.

Newer players may be tempted to hide and stay quiet at night. While this may be a good idea, it is not very productive. Players must manage their time wisely to survive blood moons, so if the player spends a lot of time simply waiting for the sunrise, they are unlikely to survive many horde nights.

Crafting and upgrading items

Work towards better equipment

Those who played the old console version will remember the days when you could improve the quality of an item simply by crafting a new one. While those days are over, players can still craft improved items and mods to further increase the efficiency of a weapon or piece of armor.

If the player does not want to venture out at night, he should check his armor and weapons. You may be able to make some mods, Upgrade your parts or use a workbench to craft new items that are better than the ones you currently have.

Upgrade your base

The best attack is a good defense

Horde nights are tough. Multiple waves of enemies will attack the player, doing everything they can to kill and devour them. If the player hides behind a few logs, things are likely not going to end well for them during a Blood Moon.

Players should perform repairs, upgrades, and improvements to their base during the night. While this may mean the player has to leave the safety of their base to repair some external parts, if they are discovered by zombies they can simply run back to their base.

Go mining

Search for resources underground

Mining plays a major role in 7 days to die. Players must have certain resources at all times to craft everything from weapons and armor to medicine and ammo. Since clearing POIs at night is much more dangerous, some players may prefer to go underground where it is a bit safer.

With a few concrete blocks and a few sturdy doors blocking the entrance, players can mine all night long. Then, when day breaks, they can put all their resources into a forge and head out to kill zombies for a day.

Although underground mining is safer than clearing POIs, there are still a few dangers that players need to be aware of. Mine collapses can be fatal. Players need to think about structural integrity when mining. To avoid collapses, players should occasionally place some wooden pillars to support the ground above.

Additionally, mining can attract screamers. Since mining generates heat, it has the potential to attract screamers. While the player can duck to reduce heat generation while mining, there is still a chance that a screamer will appear, so be careful of uninvited visitors while mining. Always carry a good weapon with you and have an escape plan in mind just in case.

Complete missions only at night.

Very rewarding tasks

As the days go by, players become more confident and explore. Although the merchant settlements are closed at night, players can still complete active missions. Most merchants have some missions that can only be completed at night. These are great for collecting XP.

Night missions are relatively straightforward. Players must go to a specific location, repair a generator, and take out all the zombies. Missions that require the player to take out zombies are great because they highlight any nearby zombies on the player’s HUD.

This can help reduce the chances of zombies sneaking up on the player. Provided the player places a door over the entrance to the POI to prevent roaming zombies from bursting in, they should have no trouble clearing a POI at night. Just bring a decent weapon, good armor, and meds.

Generates a lot of heat

Bring some screamers with you

When the player does things like mining, building, smelting and crafting, they will generate heat. This heat has the potential to attract screamers. Most players will already know that Screamers can scream to attract other zombies. When used correctly, the player can use a screamer to his advantage.

Be sure to turn on things like forges, chemistry stations, and campfires to generate heat quickly. Shooting a weapon will also help boost the heat.

Provided the player has a reasonably stable base, they can use the Screamer to gain XP. The zombies the Screamer summons are usually tougher zombies like cops and military zombies. These give decent XP when killed. Even if the player still needs to complete challenges like killing 50 cops or 50 Big Mammas, a Screamer can be a great way to complete these challenges quickly.
