Miranda Derrick has reacted to the newly released Netflix documentary “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult”.

The series focuses on allegations against dance management company 7M and the Shekinah church, with testimony from former members and their families. Leader Robert Shinn, 7M and Shekinah have denied wrongdoing.

In the documentary, Miranda’s family claims that the TikTok star, who is represented by 7M, is stuck in a cult. They said they lost contact with her when she became more involved with 7M and Shekinah – but have since resumed contact.

Miranda has now responded to the documentary and posted a video and a written statement on Instagram.

“Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive during this time,” she says in the clip. “For legal reasons I can’t go into too much detail, but I just wanted to add a little bit of my side of the story.”

In her statement, she begins: “Hi everyone, I just wanted to stop by and say that I saw the documentary. First, I would like to say that I appreciate the concern that has been expressed for my well-being.”

“Due to ongoing legal proceedings in which I am a plaintiff in a defamation suit, it is not appropriate for me to comment on specific allegations. However, I would like to point out that I do not condone abuse in any way. I can only speak for myself.

“I love my mom, dad and Melanie and they will be a part of my life forever. The truth is we just don’t see eye to eye right now. I believe this documentary is a one-sided story.

“In 2020, I dedicated my life to Jesus Christ and right at the beginning I asked my family for some space to collect my thoughts and process the new path I wanted to take with God.”

The star said she wanted to continue running her social media page alongside her sister Melanie, but claimed she had been “denied” access to the account and “still hasn’t been given access”.

“My family didn’t respect the space I asked for and I saw a different side of them that I’d never seen before,” she continued. “Honestly, it made me angry, frustrated and upset that they were so overbearing and chaotic.”

During a Christmas visit nearly four years ago, Miranda spoke about her family’s accusation that 7M did not allow her to attend her grandfather’s funeral.

“Melanie and I drove to the hospital to say our last goodbyes. Before we went to the hospital to do that, I started praying for our dad in the car and Melanie was insulted, angry with me and told me to stop and never pray in her presence again. Our dad died that day,” she wrote.

Miranda added that a month and a half later, she and Melanie were in LA, preparing to return to Michigan for her grandfather’s funeral.

“My parents and my sister are not religious. They immediately labeled me going to church twice a week as a ‘cult,'” she said.

Miranda said she was afraid that if she returned for the funeral, they would “try to keep me there and not let me come back to LA,” claiming she felt “threatened by them.”

Instead, she told them she was not going to travel to Michigan and wanted to “move in and start my life with (husband) James.”

Miranda went on to say that she has “come together” with her family over the past few years “to make amends, to move on and to work things out as a family.” However, she feels that the documentary “has created another challenge between us as I work to process this public attack.”

“Nobody likes to be portrayed as someone who has been brainwashed/who has no control over their life/who is a shadow of their former self/who has been trafficked when that is simply not the truth,” she continued.

“I would like to add that I would have preferred my family’s circumstances to remain private. I am forced and feel I have no choice but to defend myself because of all of this. I cannot convince anyone to believe anything.

“I am just a woman trying to live her life. I am not a victim, I have not been harmed, I am not being abused. I have not asked my family or anyone else to ‘help’ me in any way. With all due respect, what I do with my life is my choice.

“As I take time to process and reflect on this situation, I would appreciate your continued support. Thank you, Miranda Derrick.”

“Dancing for the Devil: The 7M Tiktok Cult” is now available to stream on Netflix.
