In a contribution to the latest episode of Last week tonightthe talk show host discussed how Republicans, including Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance, have resented being called “weird” by politicians from the other party. Oliver highlighted Republican candidate Hung Cao, a retired Navy captain.

Oliver called him a “very strange man” with no political experience and played a clip in which Cao criticizes Monterey, California, for becoming a “very dark” place that has now been overrun by “witchcraft” and the “Wicca community.”

“If Monterey is actually overrun by witches – which it isn’t – then frankly I’m angry that there wasn’t a witchcraft story. Big little lies”, joked Oliver.

“How could you not have Nicole Kidman showing up at a moonlit orgy and declaring, ‘We came here to see magic?'” Oliver continued, referring to the Oscar winner’s viral AMC ad. “Anyone’s head would have exploded.”

As Deadline previously reported, there are still high hopes for a third season of the Emmy-winning series – which also stars Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Adam Scott and Alexander Skarsgård – and Dern told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that the series’ stars are actively planning a junior season.

“I can tell you that all of us involved in this couldn’t imagine a better time,” Dern said at the time. “We love each other so much and would have the time of our lives if we were back together, and we love our characters so much. I really know what you know. But I know they’re working diligently to dream this up, and I really hope it becomes a reality.”
