Due to rain, the Cup Series in Michigan is postponed to Monday at 11 a.m. ET

The remainder of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway has been postponed until Monday at 11 a.m. ET due to intermittent rain and decreasing daylight hours.

For the second consecutive year, rain delayed the start of the annual NASCAR Cup race in Michigan. One of many scattered showers began when the field was one lap away from the green flag at 3:25 p.m. ET. A window of opportunity opened 90 minutes later for the race to start, but even heavier showers were on the way.

The field eventually completed a quarter of the scheduled distance before being red-flagged on lap 52 of 200. NASCAR briefly waited for the storm to pass, but then decided to postpone the race until Monday because the weather forecast was poor and there were only a few hours of daylight left. Michigan doesn’t have stoplights to run into the night.

USA Network will cover the continued race on Monday along with MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Ryan Blaney won the opening stage on Sunday ahead of Chase Elliott, William Byron, Bubba Wallace and Chris Buescher. Kyle Larson led the first 34 laps before losing the top spot to Wallace in a battle that also included Denny Hamlin. Wallace was leading on lap 39 when Hamlin spun out, bringing out a caution. Blaney was one of those who stayed out while Wallace and others pitted.

At the time of the stoppage, Elliott was in the lead ahead of Martin Truex Jr., Wallace, Alex Bowman and Tyler Reddick. Kyle Busch, Larson, Ross Chastain, Chase Briscoe and Joey Logano completed the top 10.
