Salsa with the Sussexes: Meghan and Harry inspire young people in Cali through dance and dialogue

This afternoon, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex brought their infectious energy to Unidad Recreativa El Vallado in Cali, where they joined forces with Jóvenes en Cali, a dynamic youth organisation dedicated to empowering young people through the arts.

From the moment they arrived, it was clear that this was no ordinary visit. The couple were greeted with enthusiastic cheers and a lively salsa and hip hop show that showcased the city’s rich cultural heritage.

True to their hands-on approach, Harry and Meghan couldn’t resist joining the young dancers on the dance floor, adding their own moves to the rhythm of the lively music. The sight of the couple dancing alongside the students brought a smile to everyone’s face and created a moment of shared joy and connection.

After the performances, the couple took the time to speak directly with the youth, listening to their personal stories and gaining insight into the challenges they face. They were moved by the students’ resilience and how they have used the power of music and dance to overcome adversity and build a better future.

Prince Harry, always committed to empowering youth, spoke passionately to the group, saying:

I hope you understand how your actions impact the people and children in your communities. The path you have chosen will inspire and bring about change for hundreds, even thousands, of young people.”

Meghan also offered words of encouragement, praising the students for their involvement in the arts as a means of supporting their mental health. “What you are doing here is extraordinary,” she told them, expressing pride in their dedication and the positive changes they are making in their lives and the lives of others.

A look at what Meghan wore this afternoon.

Meghan wore a skirt by Colombian designer Juan De Dios – El Carmen Canvas Hand Embroidered Midi Skirt in Ecru, $795. At the time of this post, there is only one size left. As this is a limited collection, most of the stock has already been sold out.

She paired the skirt with a white T-shirt, the identity of which is unknown. Meghan has preferred T-shirts by James Perse in the past.

Her shoes are by Stuart Weitzman – the Benni sandal in tan leather, $295.

Meghan also wore her Miu Miu ‘Artiste’ sunglasses in black & gold (no longer available). She wore the sunglasses for the first time in New York at Global Citizen Live in New York in September 2021.

We’re not sure what earrings she was wearing. I’m betting it’s a pair from another local artist. Hopefully Bazaar will have more info by tomorrow.

We have one more post for today! Check back soon for coverage of the couple’s night out at a local music festival.

We leave you with this comparative look at the couple dancing today and at their wedding.
