67-year-old woman dies after collision with SUV in northeast Salem

A 67-year-old Salem woman was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Lancaster Drive and Wolverine Street NE in Salem on Wednesday, according to Salem police.

Police said the accident in northeast Salem was reported at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the SUV was in the left-turn lane, and when the light turned green, the pedestrian, identified as Teresita Telesfora Millard, began to walk east in the crosswalk when the driver struck her while turning, according to a preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Traffic Team.

According to police, Millard was taken to Salem Health Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

According to police, the driver remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation.

According to police, the driver was charged with failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian on a zebra crossing and driving without a license and without insurance.

The case is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete, police said.

According to police, this is the 16th traffic fatality in Salem this year.
