50 reach the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs

The field for the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs is set when the PGA Tour moves from Memphis to Colorado this week to compete in the BMW Championship. At Castle Pines Golf Club, the top 50 players in points will be whittled down to the top 30.

Hideki Matsuyama won the opening match of the FedEx St. Jude Championship and moved up to third place in the points standings. Only the best players on tour this season remain: world number one and six-time winner Scottie Scheffler and two-time major winner Xander Schauffele. Collin Morikawa, Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg, Theegala, Cantlay and Sungjae Im complete the top 10 in the points standings.

Keegan Bradley, the captain of the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup, is ranked 50th and will have to work the hardest to get to East Lake and the Tour Championship. In 30th place is Denny McCarthy, who finished ninth at TPC Southwind on Sunday. He is 178 points ahead of Tommy Fleetwood, who is ranked 31st.

Playoff points are worth four times as much as in unsigned regular season tournaments, with the winner receiving 2,000 points. There are no cuts in the playoff events, so everyone has four rounds to earn points and the $20 million prize at the BMW. At East Lake, the FedEx Cup’s $100 million prize pool will be split, with the winner receiving $25 million.

Castle Pines Golf Club hosted the International, a stop on the PGA Tour, from 1986 to 2006. The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is a par 72 with an elevation difference of 7,676 meters.
