ADAC GT4: Fast Kiwis have to settle for top 15 at the Nürburgring

William Exton and Tom Bewley achieved another top-15 result in the second one-hour race of the ADAC GT4 Germany weekend at the Nürburgring.

However, it was another frustrating race for the New Zealand duo as early contact left them with no chance of a top-five finish.

The weather was much better for the second race of the weekend than the first. On a dry track, Exton was able to avoid any drama in the first lap traffic and finished in tenth place. He then fought his way up through a battlefield from fourth to twelfth.

A safety car after seven minutes meant another busy restart, but he managed to fight his way to ninth place and looked comfortable.

However, ten minutes before the end of his stint, his Fourie BMW unfortunately spun, causing him to drop to 19th place.

Any chance of a result commensurate with her speed was lost, but Exton got back into the swing of things and quickly fought her way back up to 13th place before his pit stop.

After a few cars pitted ahead of the KCMG GR Supra GT4 EVO, Bewley rejoined the track in 17th place and went flat out during his half hour, setting a fast pace and doing his best to score a decent result.

In the end he had moved up to 15th place.

“Another frustrating day for the drivers as they were definitely able to keep up with the pace of the leaders,” said Nicolas Caillol, Motorsport Manager, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing New Zealand.

Without the early incident and the various safety car phases, a top ten finish would have been easily possible.

“Even if the result does not reflect their speed, the guys can be very happy with their performance on their debut in one of the most competitive GT4 series in the world.

“All in all, it was a great week.”
