Water pipe burst repaired in Chatham County; residents reported having no water since Saturday evening

Chatham County residents reported being without water since Saturday night due to a burst water main. Many said they were frustrated that the county never notified them – and continues not to do so.

One resident said the water was turned off around 8 p.m. on Saturday. Another resident had previously seen water on the street around 2 p.m. the same day.

According to Blake Mills, Chatham County’s water utility director, the county was not aware of any case of a customer without water on Saturday night.

One woman said she was concerned because she didn’t know if the water was safe to drink. Another WRAL viewer said the Moncure Fire Department provided water for farms with animals.

Some residents were worried about what would happen if a fire broke out and there was no water to put it out. The deputy fire chief said he spoke to the water authority on Saturday night and was told it was a “non-urgent problem.”

Mills also said the water main was repaired around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
