An 18-year-old man died on Saturday when an air conditioner fell on his head from the second floor of a building in the Karol Bagh district.

The man, identified as Jitesh, a resident of Doriwala area, and his 17-year-old friend Pranshu, a resident of Patel Nagar, were standing under a building and chatting when the incident occurred.

While Jitesh was taken dead to a nearby hospital, Pranshu is currently hospitalized with injuries.

CCTV footage that has now surfaced on social media shows Jitesh sitting on his scooter and talking to Pranshu at around 6.40 pm on Saturday.

Just moments after the two embrace, the outdoor unit of an air conditioner falls from the second floor directly onto Jitesh’s head, killing him instantly.

A case has been registered at Desh Bandhu Gupta police station and a forensic team has also examined the accident spot. Further investigation is underway in the matter.

The FIR was filed under sections 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to police, Pranshu is unable to comment on the case as he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.

In another tragic air-conditioning-related death, a 37-year-old man charred to death on Friday after a fire broke out in the air-conditioner in his bedroom, causing an explosion at Shri Ram Enclave in Bhondsi, Gurugram.

During the summer heat wave, several deaths were also recorded due to air conditioning fires.
