Notre Dame Football: What is the minimum requirement for the Irish this season?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of NCAA fans. All year long, we ask questions to the most connected Notre-Dame Fans and supporters across the country. Register here to participate in the weekly surveys sent by email.

Last week I asked fans a series of questions to answer, so let’s take a look at the results of the vote.

Not surprisingly, Irish fans overwhelmingly said the season opener against the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station will be Notre Dame’s toughest test of the year. That makes sense considering it’s a road game, the first game, and the Irish still have some questions to answer on the offensive line.

The Florida State Seminoles finished in second place by a wide margin, which is quite remarkable considering FSU’s top-10 ranking at the start of the season and their good chances of arriving in South Bend undefeated.

The ceiling is the ceiling – but there is always a floor to consider. 41% of Irish fans surveyed believe the floor is a 10-2 record. There was a lot of debate in the offseason about what a 10-2 record would mean for Notre Dame’s college football playoff chances. Personally, with this unspectacular schedule, I don’t think the Irish will make the playoffs with two losses.

Right after the first pre-season poll was released, we learned of Charles Jagusah’s fate. Of course, such an injury is not encouraging, but despite the loss, Irish fans remain convinced that this is a top-10 team.

I’m glad the fans didn’t overreact (too much).
