Chelsea fans furious at ‘significant downgrade’ after star player who cost Man City £29m storms through £220m midfield with embarrassing ease
CHELSEA fans were furious after former player Mateo Kovacic strolled through midfield and scored in the bottom corner.
The goal secured three points for Manchester City and gave them the best possible start to their title defence.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring after 18 minutes before Kovacic made a brave solo effort.
The Croatian slid past Moises Caicedo and left Enzo Fernandez standing – a midfield duo that cost Chelsea a whopping £220 million.
He then launched a shot, which Robert Sanchez could only direct into the bottom corner.
Chelsea fans were furious at the goal and many were frustrated at the downgrade they suffered by selling Kovacic for £29 million and buying Fernandez and Caicedo.
One fan reacted to the goal by saying: “I can’t imagine that we swapped Kovacic for Enzo. Big downgrade.”
Another added: “Kovacic, who left Chelsea for £29m, strolls through a £220m midfield of Caicedo (£105m) and Enzo (£115m) to secure the 3 points. Chelsea Football Club.”
A third wrote: “Enzo and Caicedo easily got past Kovavic there and scored the second goal, lol.”

Fernandez joined Chelsea in February 2023 for £107 million and was named captain by new head coach Enzo Maresca despite failing to live up to his price tag.
Caicedo arrived the following summer for £115 million, with the Blues beating Liverpool to sign.
