Are Walmart’s floor walkers really designed to attract 200 customers a day?

A former Walmart loss prevention employee reveals how he targets certain customers to prevent theft.

In a video posted on August 13 by TikToker Bigbagspenny616 (@bigbagspenny616), he says he was fired from Walmart, which prompted him to reveal the tricks of the trade to unsuspecting customers.

The same TikToker previously posted about being targeted by Walmart employees.

What does a floorwalker do?

“We always stay in our cars,” he explains. “When you drive in, we get permission to follow you into the store. This creates the illusion that we arrived at the store at the same time.”

He goes on to explain that each employee on the floor has a goal. They follow you as you shop and pay with you.

The TikToker claims that everyone is assigned a floorwalker.

“On a quiet shift we serve 50 destinations and on a busy day 200 customers,” says a text on the screen.

“If you are suspected of theft, we are obliged to film you,” he explains. “Just in case we need to use this later in court.”

Problems with “floor runners”

Walmart floor walkers have been the subject of controversy and litigation before. According to court documents from 2016, a waiter tried to frame a disabled customer for theft. The jury found the customer not guilty, and the defendant sued Walmart.

In the comments section, viewers report on their own encounters with floor walkers.

“I told a lady she was being followed by the anti-theft system and the guy got mad at me and said I was interfering with an official investigation,” said one viewer.

“I once freaked out on a walker. I felt terrible afterward, but I’m very aware of my surroundings,” wrote one. “When someone is following me or watching me, it’s not very nice.”

“I caught one of them looking through a screen at someone, I went behind them and said ‘CAUGHT’! They got really mad at me… true story,” said a third.

Others make jokes about the floor attendant assigned to them.

“My parking attendant needs to be more responsible and tell me where I parked because half the time I forget,” wrote one.

“My poor shoplifter. I go to Walmart to take a break from my house. Sometimes I call my mom and walk around aimlessly for hours talking,” joked another.
