The New England Patriots announced the death of their team physician Dr. Mark Price on Sunday.

Price has served as the Patriots’ chief physician and medical director since 2016 and used his expertise to help the franchise win two Super Bowls during his tenure with New England.

In a statement, the Patriots cited cancer as Price’s cause of death.

“His contributions to the health and well-being of our players were invaluable and his commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of his job,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement.

Before joining the NFL, Price was a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in combat operations in Afghanistan.

With Price as team doctor, the Patriots participated in three Super Bowls and won two of them.
