Why is there no girls’ and boys’ night on this season of MAFS Australia?

There are now certain parts of the experiment that feature in every season of Married At First Sight Australia that we’ve grown to love (and dread a little). The engagement ceremonies are always *brutal*, the visits from friends and family can be awkward, and the retreat episodes are always full of shocking revelations. One iconic night we don’t get to see this season, however, is boys’ and girls’ night. But why did producers cancel this normally dramatic event?

Previous seasons of MAFS Australia featured a girls’ night and a guys’ night, where the husbands and wives would split up and spend the evening with their fellow brides or grooms at a boujee bar.

The night is often near the end of the experiment and often brides and grooms who had previously left the experiment due to the failure of their marriages return to reunite with the rest of the cast.

In the 2023 season, Sandy returned after ending her relationship with Dan and revealed to the women that she hadn’t told her parents yet. That night, Sandy also questioned Bronte’s feelings for Harrison, Claire apologized to Janelle, and Harrison and Adam got into an argument.

So why did producers decide to skip the night for season 11? Well, an insider revealed to So Dramatic! that they decided not to film a girls’ and boys’ night because the show was already quite long and they weren’t expecting much drama since singer’s bride Lauren was currently at home recovering from surgery.

“It wasn’t really necessary because all the couples had been on the show for quite a long time anyway, so a reunion so early on would have been weird,” they explained. “The week it was due to take place, Lauren (Dunn) was also at home in Perth and not filming, so it would have been boring without her and none of the other brides would have really said much.”

Couple Swap Week was also not shown this season, but was replaced with “Feedback Week.” Instead of couples swapping partners and moving in together for the entire week, the couples swap for a few hours and go out to dinner or drinks to tell each other exactly what they think of the other’s relationship.

And that, if we’re honest, is exactly what worries us most when we watch it.
