Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards talk about their collaboration

This weekend, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant and Minnesota Timberwolves wing Anthony Edwards performed at Fanatics Fest, bringing joy to the kids who came to see their basketball heroes. But the highlight of the event may have been the questions they were asked about each other. After playing together for the Paris Olympics, the two have become great friends.

“Man, I call him the ‘baby goat,'” Durant said of his experience with Edwards this offseason. “You know what I mean?”

“It was great,” adds Edwards. “It was a great experience, especially being by his side. I was attached to his hip the whole trip.”

The friendship that developed between Durant and Edward was one of the better moments of the offseason.

On the one hand, they are simply two of the most electrifying players in the league.

Edwards has consistently backed up his confidence with outstanding play and even showed MVP potential last season. In fact, Edwards has replaced fellow former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns as the franchise leader.

Durant hardly needs an introduction. The DMV native was immediately voted into the Hall of Fame and is widely regarded as the best point scorer of all time.

On the other hand, Edwards’ youthful energy and the realization that Durant is his favorite player seem to have brought out a more lively side of the 35-year-old.

While he is undoubtedly a legendary basketball player, Durant has become jaded in recent years, especially with fans and the media. He was heavily criticized for his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and is arguably nowhere near as popular as he otherwise would have been.

His reaction to these derogatory remarks is understandable; he is human. Few people truly want to be disliked. However, he now tends to take on a villainous role that he never wanted when he joined the League.

All jokes aside, it would be great if Durant enjoyed his NBA experience to the fullest. He’ll hardly forget the way people picked on him for nearly a decade, but as he enters the autumn of his career, he should be able to leave the game in peace.

Will they play together in the NBA?

The growing relationship between Edwards and Durant has given rise to an intriguing hypothesis.

Durant is entering only his second season with the Suns, but his contract expires in 2026, potentially giving Phoenix a small window to win a championship. If the Suns fail in 2024-25, he and the team could work together to find him a new home next summer. Regardless of whether he leaves via trade or as a free agent, the Timberwolves now seem like an attractive destination.

First, Durant wanted to play for Phoenix and his previous team (the Brooklyn Nets) because he was friends with and respected their star players. Second, Minnesota is no longer considered a bottom-tier franchise. The team had a bad reputation for a long time because of its lack of playoffs. However, Ant Man saved the day and led the Wolves to a top-three finish in the West last season. With Durant on board, Minnesota could jump to the top of the conference standings.

More importantly, a team with Edwards and Durant will be tough to beat in a seven-game series.
