Eidevall on the importance of a quick start | Video | News

Our US pre-season tour picks up speed today when we take on NWSL team the Washington Spirit at Audi Field at 7pm (UK).

After a team training session, head coach Jonas Eidevall looked ahead to a “very competitive game”.

“Some aspects of their game really impressed me when I watched them. They have a counter-attacking game that is absolutely world class both individually and collectively.

“They are obviously having a very successful season in the NWSL. They are in the middle of the season while we are playing our first game.

“So I have a lot of respect for this opponent and we have to put in a very, very good performance.”

With the Barclays Women’s Super League season still over a month away, a comprehensive pre-season training program gives us the best opportunity to start on a high note.

“From a sporting perspective, we know that we have to be ready to play competitive matches at the beginning of September. To do this, we need a quick start to the season. This is reflected in last season.”

“To start the season quickly, we need to find the right answers as early as possible. Playing against a team like Washington Spirit as the first game of the season is obviously an incredible challenge, but it will give us the answers we need and that we can work with.”
