College student dies after collapsing on dance floor at Nungambakkam Restobar

CHENNAI: A 22-year-old college student died after he fainted on the dance floor of a restobar in Nungambakkam on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Muhammed Suhail, a native of Karaikudi, who was pursuing an MBA at a private college in Ramapuram and was staying in a hostel in the city.

On Saturday, Suhail and his friends visited the restobar ‘House of Billa’ (HOB) at Kings Park Grand Hotel in Nungambakkam.

While dancing, Suhail suddenly fainted. His friends rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Teynampet police recovered his body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

Police said doctors suspected the teenager had suffered cardiac arrest.

Senior police officers visited the bar to investigate and asked management to provide video footage of the premises.

“We have requested an visceral examination and are now awaiting the autopsy results to determine the cause of death,” a police official added.

Meanwhile, Suhail’s friends told the police that the deceased had not even drunk alcohol.

In May 2022, S Praveen (23) of Madipakkam, a software developer, collapsed during a rave party on the roof of a mall in Anna Nagar and later died in a hospital.
