Water stations damaged by recent attacks in Deir ez-Zor repaired
Between August 7 and 12, Difa al-Watani (National Defense Forces) and armed groups affiliated with the Damascus government carried out attacks on the Deir ez-Zor canton. The attacks left 15 civilians dead and 24 others injured. Many houses were seriously damaged by the attacks.
The attackers targeted key water sources, such as Sebxa station in Basîra town, which supplies water to 15,000 people, Al-Omer station in Ziban district, which supplies water to 3,000 people, Hewaêj Ziyab station in Kesra town, which supplies water to 12,000 people, and Abu Hamam water station, which supplies water to 4,000 people. Following the attacks, these water stations were put out of service and the region experienced water shortages.
After the restoration of security, water facilities in Deir ez-Zor canton began construction and repair work on the four stations that were attacked. Fewaz El Itêş, an official from the water directorate in the region, stated that many water pipes in the stations were damaged as a result of the attacks. El Itêş announced that all four stations were repaired and put back into operation after the work.
There are a total of 80 drinking water stations in the canton of Deir ez-Zor. These stations are of great importance in meeting the water needs of the people in the region.
