CHICAGO (CBS) — A 67-year-old man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck in Rogers Park on Saturday night.

According to Chicago police, the victim was crossing the street in the 1900 block of West Howard Street around 11:30 p.m. when he was struck.

The driver of a black pickup truck was heading east and did not stop to render aid.

A witness at the scene who saw the truck drive off said he knew the victim.

“I go back here and I see it was my classmate, the guy I went to school with. You know what I mean? I mean, he was from the neighborhood, from my neighborhood,” said James Evans.

The victim suffered serious injuries in the accident and was taken by ambulance from Evanston to St. Francis Hospital, where he died.

Police said summonses would be issued and serious accident investigators would launch investigations.
