Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill recently said he could beat Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles in a race. Noah Lyles recently responded.

At one performance, Lyles Hill’s name did not come to mind.

“What is the name of the cheetah from football and what is his name?” said Lyles. “I can’t remember his name. What’s the name of the football player who thinks he’s fast?”

Lyles was reminded of the name. It appeared on the Nightcap In a podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco, Lyles addressed Hill’s boast that he could beat the gold medalist in a race.

“Tyreek is just chasing influence“, Lyles said. “The man — anytime someone fast comes along, he says he wants to fight them. If he really wanted to fight people, he would have shown up, like DK Metcalf.”

Last year, Metcalf won the 60-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championship with a time of 6.7 seconds.

“The man is dodging smoke,” Lyles said of Hill. “I don’t have time for that. … If he’s serious, if he’s really serious — I don’t mean you just talk on the Internet and don’t actually come to me and talk to my agent and say, ‘Let’s get something going,’ if you’re serious, you’ll see me on the track.”

Lyles is right. There is so much talk about who is faster, but they never prove it. Because it is much easier to say, “I am faster than you,” than to risk being wrong.

To be fair, the clip from the On and Adams The show seemed to reflect Hill’s periodic desire to stir up a little WWE-style drama. Funny, light-hearted, not serious. And, to be even more fair to Hill, he seemed agitated by a misrepresentation of Lyle’s previous comments about NBA champions claim they are world champions. Lyles did not question whether Super Bowl winners are also world champions. That was the comment that caused Hill to lash out at Lyles.

Still, it’s a lot of talk and fuss. The noise and anger mean nothing. Except for the clicks it generates when we’re bored enough to pay attention.
