Missouri issued over 8,000 personalized license plates last year – these 16 were among the rejected
Drivers in Missouri can spice up their car by getting a personalized license plate for just $15.
However, not every application is approved, as these humorous rejections from last year show.
According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, more than 8,000 applications for personalized license plates were processed in 2023 and 475 were rejected.
To be approved for a personal design, the requested mark must not violate state obscenity laws.
Missouri law requires license plates not to be “obscene, blasphemous, patently offensive or contemptuous of any racial or ethnic group, or contrary to common taste or decency.”

The design of the license plates must not violate the state’s obscenity laws.
Last year alone, almost 500 applications were rejected
Among those rejected were signs with the letters “H8GVMT”, “0 SHIZZ” and “F – SAKE”.
Other uses deemed inappropriate were “1TNY PP”, “DFWME” and “FKWOKE”.
‘5L0WAF’, ‘FB1CAR’, ‘G0LF69’, ‘PFAAF0’, ‘FCRDF0’, ‘UFAUF0’, ‘BEAUCH’, ‘CANABL’, ‘KCM0AF’ and ‘B1SHHH’ were also returned to sender.
Motorists can express their creative wishes for personalized license plates in person at the vehicle registration office or by mail.
Before a license is approved, the checks are carried out manually by several government employees.
The tax office also identified and rejected inappropriate messages and words in Spanish and Korean.
According to the Kansas City Star, the state also rejected a number of applications that made fun of President Biden or referenced drugs or violence.
