It is a dispute that often arises between people planning a trip: should the children come along or stay at home?

And this time it’s between sisters!

Look at this woman’s story and consider whether you think she did something wrong.

“Every year the women in my family go on a girls’ trip where we take turns choosing the location.

The first year, my sister brought her 8-year-old.

In the second year she brought her 9 and 7 year old children with her.

Third year, no kids and it’s been great.

In the fourth year, it’s my turn to vote. She said she was bringing her 18-month-old child. She didn’t even ask me if that was OK.

She said she “has to” because her husband has to work.

I asked my husband if we needed to change the dates.

She doesn’t agree with that…

He said he could look after the children and the appointments would not need to be changed.

My sister still plans to bring him because I’ll be bringing my four-month-old baby (who I’m breastfeeding) and “what difference does it make?”

I told her that one could walk and talk, but the other could not.

She has always felt like no one is helping or supporting her. But I also think that a lot is expected of all of us, spending our vacations and money to look after her toddler, who she could easily leave at home.

What now?

I also wish she would at least be honest and respectful.

Say, “Hey, I’m scared to leave the toddler alone. Is it okay if I bring him? I’ll make sure he doesn’t ruin the mood,” instead of just bringing him and acting like she has no other choice.

Last year I actually had the choice, but we canceled because after I paid a (refundable) deposit on Airbnb, she got tickets to an Ed Sheeran concert and wanted to see the concert instead.

AITA, because you asked her not to bring him?”

Children can save or ruin a vacation, there is no doubt about that.
