Previous playing experience also includes time in the G League

Born in Greece, the 6’9″ Antetokounmpo moved to the United States before high school. He spent his four years of high school playing for Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Instead of playing college basketball in the United States, Antetokounmpo announced that he wanted to play in Europe after high school.

During the 2020-21 season, Antetokounmpo played for UCAM Murcia in Spain. He was eligible to be selected in the 2021 NBA Draft but was not drafted. During the 2021-22 season, Antetokounmpo played for the Raptors 905 of the G League. He spent time with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League in each of the last two seasons. In 34 regular season and Showcase Cup games last season for Wisconsin, Antetokounmpo averaged 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists. He shot 33.8% from the field, 22.5% from three-point range and 61.0% from the free throw line.

Antetokounmpo played 12 games for M Basket-Delamode Mažeikiai last season after signing with them. He finished the season averaging 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game. Antetokounmpo shot much better from the field (51.2%) than he did in the G League.

The surname Antetokounmpo has become famous

Of course, all basketball fans should know the long last name Antetokounmpo. The reason for this is Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of the best basketball players in the world. Giannis has played 11 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks since being selected 15th in the 2013 NBA Draft. The eight-time All-Star won the NBA MVP trophy back to back in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. In the last of those seasons, Giannis was also named Defensive Player of the Year. He was the best player on the Bucks team that won the 2021 NBA Finals.

Giannis is not the only Antetokounmpo brother playing in the NBA. Thanasis Antetokounmpo has spent the last five seasons with Milwaukee. He also has a ring from the 2021 Bucks team. However, Thanasis could miss the entire 2024-25 season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

Kostas Antetokounmpo also has experience in the NBA. He appeared in 22 games over three seasons from 2018-19 to 2020-21 for the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers. Kostas has a championship ring from his time with the 2020 Lakers. He currently plays for Panathinaikos in Greece, the reigning EuroLeague champions.

Alex is still young enough (turns 23 on August 27) to perhaps one day become the fourth Antetokounmpo brother to play in the NBA. The oldest brother, Francis Antetokounmpo, took a different path than the other Antetokounmpo brothers, playing soccer professionally in Nigeria and Greece before retiring from the sport.
