Dubai Police have introduced a creative way to encourage safe driving and help you remove black points from your record. Imagine being rewarded for doing what you are supposed to do – drive safely.

Accident-free day: your chance to clean up your traffic record

Nobody likes to have a black mark on their traffic record. To remedy this, the Federal Transport Council has launched the “Accident-Free Day” initiative.

The concept is simple: drive safely on Monday, August 26, 2024, and four black traffic points will be erased from your record. Think of it as a cleansing ritual for your driving history.

Why August 26? This date marks the start of the new school year, a time when the roads are packed with school buses, parents and even lost tourists. The UAE wants to ensure this hectic day remains accident-free and in return offers you the opportunity to improve your driving skills.

Follow the rules and earn your reward

But there is a catch: you have to earn this reward. The rules are clear:

• Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
• Always give way to pedestrians.
• Buckle up.
• Obey the speed limit.
• Avoid using mobile phones while driving.
• Make way for emergency vehicles, police and convoys.

Sign up for the commitment letter, follow these rules and you will see four black dots disappear from your record.

Observing silent radars

As part of the initiative, Dubai Police will deploy “silent radars” in residential areas. These radars don’t flash like traditional ones, but are designed to catch rule-breakers, be it speeding, talking on the phone or not wearing a seatbelt. So even if you think no one is watching, these radars are watching.

It’s never been easier – or more rewarding – to remove four black points from your record. Drive responsibly on August 26 and watch the points disappear as if by magic – but better yet, it’s completely legal.
