  • Due to legal disputes with Apple and Google, Epic Games has lost $1 billion in revenue since 2020.
  • Despite high legal fees, Epic Games Store and Fortnite are now available on iOS and Android with some restrictions.
  • Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, is convinced that the fight for the company’s freedom and market participation is worth the cost.

In a recent interview with Game File, Sweeney said that Epic Games has probably lost over a billion dollars in revenue since 2020which marks the beginning of the technology giant’s battle against two titans.

In addition to the lost revenue, Epic Games has also spent hundreds of millions on legal fees. More than three years after the battle, Epic Games Store and of course Fortnite, is now available for iOS and Android with some limitations.

Both the store and the tech giant’s colossal titles are available on iOS devices within the European Union. This means that iOS users who want to play Fortnite or use the store in the US and UK will have to wait a little longer. However, Epic Games and its colossal titles are available to Android users worldwide.

Sweeney says that seeing Fortnite, Rocket League digAnd Fall GuysThe new mobile version for iOS devices in Europe is a big milestone. However, he believes the battle is far from over.

It is currently unknown when the Epic Games Store and its games will be available on iOS devices in the US and UK.

While you can now install Epic Games Store on both mobile operating systems, Sweeney says Apple and Google intentionally implemented inferior installation processes and scare screens. However, once you’ve done that, you can play Fortnite and other Epic Games hits on the go.

A billion dollars is a small price, says Sweeney

Sweeney is optimistic about the whole situation and has few regrets about starting this long legal battle. He explains:

“If we have spent a billion dollars so far, that is a small price to pay for the future freedom of our company and everyone else who wants to participate in the market,”

In 2020 Apple has removed Fortnite from iOS devices because Epic Games tried in various ways to circumvent Apple’s 30 percent tax on all apps.

This sparked a long-running dispute between the industry giants, resulting in lawsuits and countersuits. Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Google in August 2020 to combat the 30% drop in revenue.

After a series of legal battles, the Epic Games Store and its games are now once again available on iOS devices registered in European Union countries. Android owners, on the other hand, can dive into Fortnite and use the store without regional restrictions.
