BROOKLYN, MI – The NASCAR Cup Series returns to the Irish Hills on Sunday afternoon, with some of the biggest names in racing competing in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

The biggest race of the NASCAR weekend in the Irish Hills is shaping up to be an extremely exciting event.

The Cup Series reached an exciting finale last Sunday at Richmond Raceway. A chaotic finish resulted in Austin Dillon taking out both Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap to take his first win of the season. The daring maneuvers were criticized and praised by fans, but the win did not qualify him for the playoffs as NASCAR penalized him for the incidents. Logano and Hamlin seemed to make it clear that they will keep an eye on the No. 3 car for the rest of the season.

That makes it 13 different drivers who have gone on to win in 2024, and with just three races left in the regular season, there are only four spots left for the playoffs. While there’s a chance three new winners could secure a spot, some drivers are hoping to sneak into the postseason without a win. Last year’s regular season champion, Martin Truex Jr., leads all winless drivers and sits eighth in the points standings.

Three Michigan natives will be in the race for Sunday. Brad Keselowski of Rochester Hills, Erik Jones of Byron and Carson Hocevar of Portage will all be looking to put in a good performance at their home race. This will be Hocevar’s Cup Series debut at MIS. He crashed last year in the Xfinity Series.

No Michigan driver has ever won the Cup Series at MIS, but Keselowski’s RFK Racing team was on the road to victory in 2023 when Chris Buescher won the 200-lap race.
