Social media users have noticed that American pop singer Kesha’s name has been removed from the title of rapper Pitbull’s 2013 hit single “Timber” on YouTube, although her name continues to appear in the video’s description and on other streaming platforms.

The track, which was the first single from Pitbull’s EP Meltdown, was released on October 7, 2013 and became a worldwide success, peaking at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks and topping the charts in over fifteen countries. According to Billboard, “Timber” is the 90th most popular song of the decade.

Speculation about the removal of Kesha’s name arose in the Popculturechat thread on Reddit, where users suggested that it could be the work of the song’s producer, Dr. Luke. The song was co-produced by Dr. Luke, also known as Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, along with Cirkut, Sermstyle, and additional producer Nick Seeley.

Kesha, whose full name is Kesha Rose Sebert, has had legal disputes with Dr. Luke in the past. In October 2014, she filed suit against him, accusing him of infliction of emotional distress, sexual hate crimes and employment discrimination. In response, Dr. Luke filed a defamation and breach of contract lawsuit against Kesha and her mother, Rosemary Patricia Sebert.

The lawsuits were eventually settled on June 22, 2023, with both parties releasing a joint statement. Kesha said she “cannot remember everything that happened the night of the alleged assault” and expressed her desire to move on with her life. Dr. Luke, on the other hand, continued to deny Kesha’s claims.
