Police arrest parents after eight-year-old Rawang girl dies from brutal abuse with belts, hangers and blunt tools

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 – Police arrested a couple at an apartment in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, yesterday for allegedly abusing their eight-year-old daughter, causing the girl’s death.

Gombak District Police Chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the two people, the child’s biological mother and stepfather, were arrested at 9pm after police received information about the victim’s death at a house in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang at 3.27pm the same day.

“The preliminary examination revealed injuries and bruises on the victim’s face, hands, legs and body. It is believed that the injuries were caused by hands or feet, belts, hangers and blunt weapons.

“The victim’s body has been taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for an autopsy. An investigation has been launched under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement today.

Noor Ariffin said the two suspects, aged 29 and 28, who worked as security guards and ice cream makers, would be remanded in custody for seven days (until August 24) to facilitate investigations.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a second-grader, had not attended school since June.
