The news was announced this morning (Tuesday 6 August) on Vernon Kay’s show on BBC Radio 2.

“Wow, Strictly Come Dancing, can you believe it?” said Willcox. “It’s going to be a wild and wonderful journey and I’m in for every sparkling second.”

“I’m used to performing in front of big audiences, but this is completely new territory for me. How I’m going to do is a mystery… I just want to get going and learn some dance routines!”

When Kay asked her what dances she was most looking forward to, Willcox replied: “I can jive – I’m a Birmingham girl. Everyone from Birmingham can jive.”

Willcox has a career spanning over 50 years on stage and screen.

Rock music fans know the award-winning singer from her hit singles “It’s a Mystery,” “I Want to Be Free,” and “Brave New World.”

Willcox recently performed at this year’s Glastonbury Festival with her husband Robert Fripp.

Willcox is the latest contestant to be added to the Strictly 2024 line-up, alongside opera singer Wynne Evans, JLS star JB Gill and comedian Chris McCausland.

This comes after Strictly confirmed its line-up of professional dancers earlier this summer.

Be sure to come and dance will return to BBC One later this year, while the spin-off Strictly speaking: It takes two is broadcast on weekdays on BBC Two. Both shows can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
