Television personality La La Anthony has an explanation for why she still holds on to her ex-husband Carmelo Anthony’s last name.

La La reflected on her family life during a panel discussion at Fanatics Fest in New York on Saturday, as her 17-year-old son Kiyan strives to make a name for himself in the NBA.

“That’s why I haven’t changed my last name yet,” Anthony said when host Taylor Rooks suggested buying Kiyan’s NBA jersey in the future.

“I’m going to keep it for a while!” added the mother of one.

La La married the famous New York Knicks player in 2010 after dating for seven years. The couple filed for divorce in June 2021 after being separated for a year in 2017.

The ex-partners remain on good terms as La La continues to support Carmelo.

The Brooklyn native was then asked how hard it would be to root against the Knicks if Kiyan was drafted elsewhere, to which she replied, “Not that hard!”

“I’m sorry, but I go where my child goes!” she said. “Wherever my child is, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for him.”

Last year, La La revealed that her teenage son was very “protective” when it came to her dating life.

“I just say, ‘You just want your mother to be alone? Like forever?’ He says, ‘Something like that,'” she joked during her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

She also confessed that she feels like a teenager who still lives at home and has to make “secret” text messages and phone calls to potential suitors. “I’m thinking, this is crazy!!,” she told the host.

Neither she nor Carmelo have publicly dated anyone since their split. Page Six reported.
