On camera: Man throws shoe cabinet and fans from second floor of Ang Mo Kio HDB block after alleged argument, Singapore News

In a fit of rage after allegedly getting into an argument with his grandmother, a man threw furniture and electrical appliances from the outside of his second-floor house at Block 110 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 on Friday afternoon (August 16).

A local resident told Shin Min Daily News in a report published on Saturday that her husband first heard shouting and a loud bang. When he went to look for the source of the noise, he saw a man on the second floor of the opposite block throwing objects from the parapet of the hallway.

In footage provided by the resident, the man can be seen struggling to lift a white shoe cabinet and then hurling it over the wall. The cabinet shattered into pieces when it fell to the ground. Two broken fans could also be seen at the foot of the block.

When reporters arrived at the scene, they saw two fans, a vacuum cleaner, potted plants, water bottles, among other things, scattered on the ground floor. The man had apparently left his house and police arrived shortly after to cordon off the area.

The man’s grandmother, a septuagenarian, told the Chinese evening newspaper that she had come from China two months ago to visit her daughter and her family. She added that she had taken care of the man when he was young and that he had always been very well behaved.

The man’s father, who works as a taxi driver, revealed that his son was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and had stayed at home since graduating from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

“This is the first time he has behaved like this. He had some problems controlling his emotions and would bang on the door when he was angry. We did not expect him to throw things this time and we “We also felt helpless,” he said, adding that the man was his only son and that he had sought treatment at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) several months ago.

He also said that his son always went to the airport when he needed to calm down and he believed that he went there after the incident.

When contacted by AsiaOne, police said they were alerted to a case of rash behavior in the area at 5.35pm on August 16. A 25-year-old man is currently assisting with the investigation.
