PETALING JAYA, Aug 18 — Attentive social media users have noticed that pop singer Kesha’s name has been removed from the title of a 2013 hit single by rapper Pitbull on YouTube, although her credits remain in the video description.

Wood, the first single from Pitbull’s EP Meltdown, which was released on October 7, 2013 and features the singer, is according to Billboard.

It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks and topped the charts in over 15 other countries.

In the Popculturechat thread on Reddit highlighting the removal, there was much speculation that the removal could be the work of the song’s producer, Dr. Luke, who co-produced the song with Cirkut and Sermstyle, with Nick Seeley also serving as producer.

Kesha, whose real name is Kesha Rose Sebert and Dr. Luke or Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, made headlines after a series of lawsuits and countersuits erupted between the two.

In October 2014, she filed suit for infliction of emotional distress, sexual hate crimes and employment discrimination, to which he responded by filing suit against the singer and her mother, Rosemary Patricia Sebert, for defamation and breach of contract.

Both eventually released a joint statement on June 22, 2023, saying they had officially reached a settlement, about a month before the case was set to go to trial. The singer said she couldn’t remember everything that happened the night of the alleged assault and was looking forward to moving on with her life, while Dr. Luke continued to deny Kesha’s original claims.

Reddit user Psychological_Car849 pointed out that “the general assumption is that Dr. Luke’s credit may have been removed because he contributed the song. Some really well-known producers have a lot of power in their contracts and at the time this guy was a very big name.”

Porcelainbrown echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Dr. Luke wants to punish Kesha again for speaking out about her abuse, as he has promised her countless times. This is perfectly consistent with his past behavior.”

Kesha will continue to appear on other streaming services.
