Grant Williams aims for $1 million after scoring a rare Luka Doncic trading card

Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams has discovered a new hobby that is already paying off. He started collecting basketball cards on Friday and immediately hit the jackpot at the Fanatics Fest in New York when he bought a National Treasures box for $10,500 and won a rare Luka Doncic Rookie card in it.

The card, which features a patch of Doncic’s jersey and his autograph, is worth at least $100,000. Grant Williams has already received offers of up to $500,000, but is waiting to see if his former teammate Luka Doncic makes a better offer. Williams joked at the time that Doncic would probably buy the card for $1 million.

LUKA TRASH TALKS AND JOKES WITH GRANT WILLIAMS AFTER LEAVED ALL OPTIONS TO HIM!
I said I've got to give Luka first right to refusal, just because he would buy this for like a million I bet... I FaceTimed him twice, he didn't pick up. He's in Slovenia right now. So he'll call me back and I'll talk to him about it because this is absurd.

Grant Williams commented on Luka Doncic’s rare rookie card in a video that is making the rounds

In addition to the valuable card of his former teammate, Williams also drew rare cards of the Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum and Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards. This impressive haul has encouraged him to continue collecting basketball cards, a hobby he just started this week. He also has experience collecting Pokémon cards, but decided to try his hand at basketball cards.

Williams has been incredibly lucky and is excited to see how much he can sell the Doncic card for. He is giving his former teammate right of first refusal, but if Doncic doesn’t bite, he will consider other offers for the much-needed card.

After his debut with the Hornets, Grant Williams tried his luck with his former team Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks were considered the biggest winners during last season’s transfer window after PJ Washington And Daniel Gafford in separate deals. However, Grant Williams, who was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, tried a chance after his debut with his former team.

It's great to get a win for this city and really play for the jersey that's across your chest, not the one on your back. So, I was fortunate to be part of a team that really wanted to win. It was super exciting, the playstyle was fun, everybody touched the ball... We trusted one another. A team that had never played with each other or practiced with one another, every single person seemed like they had each other's back.

Grant Williams said

His time with the Mavericks was not a successful one, despite his good touches. In his final 34 games with the Mavericks, he shot 38.4% from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc on 6.2 shots per game. His lack of impact on defense was a major reason for his departure, leading the Mavericks to trade him to the Hornets despite signing him to a four-year, $53 million contract the previous offseason.

While his debut with the Hornets was impressive, his comments suggested he still had a bitter taste in his mouth after his time with the Mavericks. The Hornets open their season with a trip to the Toyota Center to face the Houston Rockets.
