After the summer break, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany will start the second half of the season next weekend (16 to 18 August 2024). At the Nürburgring, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing cars will compete in the ninth and tenth races of the season, which will again be held as part of the DTM supporting programme.

The Dutchman Larry ten Voorde travels to the Eifel as the leader of the table. The reigning champion starts for the German team Proton Huber Competition. His closest rival is Harry King from Allied Racing. At the halfway point of the season, the Englishman is 32 points behind ten Voorde. Third place is occupied by the German Theo Oeverhaus from the Bonk Motorsport team.

“The last two races in Budapest didn’t go optimally for me,” recalls Larry ten Voorde, who had to settle for second and sixth place after three consecutive victories at the Hungaroring. “But my team and I will do everything we can to get back to our old strength.” History is on his side: In the 2023 season, the three-time champion celebrated two victories at the Nürburgring.

At the last double event in Budapest, two newcomers to the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany won: Frenchman Marvin Klein from the Italian team Target Competition and the Dutch driver from Uniserver by Team GP Elite, Kas Haverkort. As a two-time champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup France, Klein no longer meets the criteria to be classified as a rookie in the German one-make cup. The 25-year-old is currently in fifth place in the drivers’ standings. Haverkort, who is five years younger and has switched from formula racing to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, leads the Carrera Cup rookies table.

In the ProAm classification, German Sören Spreng from GP Elite goes into the Nürburgring weekend as overall leader. In the team classification, Proton Huber Competition is in first place.

“After the summer break, drivers and teams will travel to the Nürburgring with fresh batteries. In addition, the weather in the Eifel region always has surprises in store. In any case, I am looking forward to two exciting races at the start of the second half of the season,” says Thorsten Rückert, the new project manager of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany.

Winners of the “Azubi Challenge” experience Porsche racing up close

Porsche Germany has once again held the “Trainee Challenge” in recent months. Particularly dedicated trainees from around 60 Porsche centers across Germany mastered a variety of challenges. The tasks ranged from restoring a classic Porsche 924 to artistically designing an original Porsche spare part.

The more than 50 winners of the “Azubi Challenge 2024” will be guests at the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany as part of the DTM race at the Nürburgring. Their program includes rides in the Porsche on the race track and a visit to Manthey Racing, multiple winners of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and technical partner of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany. The trainee teams will also compete against each other in the pit stop competition, which is about speed when changing tires. They will also experience the races of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany and the DTM live.

Nurburgring

In its original form, the Nürburgring, which opened in 1927, was around 28 kilometers long. Former Formula 1 driver Jackie Stewart gave the extremely demanding hill track in the shadow of the Nürburg its distinctive nickname “Green Hell.” Since its reconstruction in 1984, the former “mountain, race and test track” has been divided into the modern Grand Prix course and the historic Nordschleife. Both are combined in the 24-hour race, for example, making it the longest permanent race track in the world.

The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany holds its races on a variant of the Grand Prix course: the so-called short loop shortens each lap to 3.629 kilometers.
