Attack on Titan announces an upcoming surprise movie, but don’t get too excited

Attack on Titan is coming to theaters to celebrate the release of The Final Chapters on home media, but you’ll have to live in Japan for now.

Attack on Titan has been finished for almost a year now, but the ending still leaves us stunned. One of the best anime of the 2010s, Eren Yaeger’s war against the evil Titans has captivated us for years and brought us to an emotional (if somewhat drawn-out) conclusion.

As the final episodes, part 4 of the fourth season, are released on Blu-ray in a special set “Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters”, a new film is coming to theaters. It is a compilation film called “The Last Attack”.

Attack on Titan: The Last Attack will be released on Friday, November 8, 2024three days after the first anniversary of its first broadcast on television. Unfortunately, the film is currently only showing in Japanese cinemas.

The announcement is accompanied by a trailer that shows some of the incredible scenes from the final episodes. Lots of fire and Titans and Survey Corps members being pushed to their limits.

The Last Attack is just under two and a half hours long, making it a good evening or afternoon movie to watch at the cinema. It comes at a time when anime is doing very well at the box office. Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle and Gundam Seed Freedom are among the highest-grossing films of the year in Japan.

There was also Blue Lock: The Movie – Episode Nagi and Demon Slayer: To The Hashira Training, both of which were also released in theaters. The latter was also a compilation film, although Demon Slayer has been producing them since the second season.

MAPPA clearly sees that Attack on Titan is still exciting and has decided to double down on the grand finale. The overall popularity of the franchise suggests that a worldwide release will happen at some point, but that remains to be seen.
